The beautiful Ihuru (now Angsana) lies in the North Male Atoll of the Maldives and can easily be reached by speedboat within 30 minutes as the island is close to Male, where the airport is situated.
The island is circular shaped - with its many palms and other tropical plants it looks like the real "Bounty Island".
We visited Ihuru in September 1998. Since then many things have changed: Not only is there another dive base but also the category of the island has changed. In 1998 it was a beautiful island with simple furnished bungalows and one open-air restaurant. Meanwhile the island has become a luxury Spa resort with more comfort than you might imagine.
We would have come back to Ihuru as we liked this island very much. Unfortunately the price you have to pay for holidays on this island is so expensive that we cannot afford it.
So just have a look at the pictures and enjoy this small piece of heaven!!!
About 30 dive sites can be reached by Dhoni within one hour. There also exists a house reef which can be reached directly from the beach - if you choose to dive the house reef you don't have to use the boat.
A beautiful lagoon lies around the jetty. It is not only suitable to have a swim but also provides a perfect place for dive beginners respectively for dive education.
During our stay on Ihuru we could watch many mantas rays while diving. Once we met 6 mantas rays all at once - that was a great experience. We also saw lots of whitetip reef sharks.
Unfortunately a lot of the corals were damaged - we suppose that many of the corals which had been affected by El Niño have now recovered in some degree and started to grow again.
