We spent the first weeks of June 2003 on Lankayan. The small island in the Sulu Sea is abundantly covered with tropical plants, has a white sandy beach and staying there feels just like holding a piece of paradise in your hands.
All the single bungalows are very simple but always clean and look adventurous due to their wooden construction.
The open air restaurant offers romantic tables for 2 persons as well as big tables for many people who like to have a chat and laugh together. The food is served as buffet style and is very good.
Unique on Lankayan was the staff who was always in a good mood - so it happened often that we stayed in the restaurant after dinner until late to sing together to the sound of guitars.
Many turtles come here to bury their eggs in the sand. The staff of Lankayan looks after the eggs and let the baby turtles go into the sea as soon as they are ready to start their adventurous life in the big blue. It was amazing to watch the little creatures doing their first steps.

The dive center is placed on the jetty. The short boat rides take between 2 to 10 minutes. The dive sites are all not deeper than 25 meters and the diving is easy.
Unfortunately we had no luck with the visibility while we were there at the beginning of June 2003 - so we had to put up with 3 to 15 meters visibility during all dives. But as Lankayan is known as a macro area the "subject" visibility was not so important.
We saw many different magnificent slugs, flabellinas, cowries, shrimps, crabs, lobsters, ghost pipefish, ribbon eels, cuttlefish, stonefish, batfish and porcupinefish. But also some bigger creatures as blue spotted stingrays, barracudas, bamboo sharks, coral cat sharks and leopard sharks. A speciality on Lankayan is the big jawfish, which always sits in its hole and waits for food.
Very recommendable are the dive sites of the house reef as well as the jetty.
