More than half of the island is inhabited
by local people. For tourists there are different resorts. The island with its
many palms and the sandy beaches is quite exotic.
The Sipadan Mabul Resort offers a swimming pool and a jacuzzi. The accommodations
are mainly single bungalows and some double bungalows. They are made out of
wood with a balcony. The bungalows are very spacious, simply furnished, clean
and have even an air condition.
The open-air restaurant offers long tables which offer enough place for many
people to sit together and have a chat between and after the dives. All meals
are served as buffet - the food is always delicious.

The area around Mabul
and Kapalai is a real macro paradise. All dive sites can be reached within 5
to 20 minutes.
The dive sites are either sandy bottom, sea grass or some reef blocks. It is
really amazing what beautiful little creatures live in these areas.
You can see frogfish (from 5 centimeters size to exemplars of even approximately
30 centimeters size), seahorses, snake eels, stonefish, demon stinger, harlequin
ghost pipefish, seagrass ghost pipefish, leaffish, mandarinfish, magnificent
slugs and flatworms in all colours and forms, ribbon eels as well as various
cleaner shrimps.
Very impressive are the crocodilefish, which deserve their name because of the
crocodile-like wide flat head and the big mouth.
