For a longer
time we have now been on the Maldives. Day in and day out we jump with passion
in the water to enjoy the beautiful fish around us. We dive into a sensitive and
enchanting world, which earth offers us. A lot of people come to the Maldives
with the same intention: Jump into the water and enjoy all the fish during snorkeling
or diving.
Now and then we hear how one John Doe says to another John Doe: "The Maldives
are not what they were in earlier years. In old days there was much more fish
in the water" - he says and picks a piece of fish from the buffet and puts
it on his plate!!!
These people might be right - for sure the fish population was much bigger years
ago. No wonder when you think of how many fish had been taken out of the water
since then. Everybody who eats fish is responsible for this dreadful state. But
nobody wants to talk about it. The only things you hear when you mention it is:
"It does not change a thing if only I stop eating fish" or "If
the fish is already dead lying on the buffet then I can eat it without problem
- it will not be alive again". That's right, it will not be alive again.
But as long as people eat fish, there will be fish caught, because demand determines
supply.
The times are over where you still could have both: lots of fish in the water
and fish on your plate. Today you have to decide what is more important for you:
fish in the water or fish in the stomach... both together is not possible anymore.

To
safe the underwater world every single person has to do something about it. To
go without fish meals should be a small thing compared to do something great for
the oceans. We call ourselves always as civilized people - therefore nowadays
everyone should understand what will happen if we do not change our attitude and
also learn to say no to culinary good things: "Very soon the oceans will
be irrevocably fished empty!!" In the past we also ate fish and enjoyed it
very much. But if you cannot go without it nothing will change concerning the
fish wealth in the seas.
The Western world always condemns the Asian culture because of their exotic meals
and the associated direct destruction or extermination of certain animal species.
But are we really so much better with our unreasonable and partly ignorant behaviour?
Of course it's the right of everybody to eat whatever he wants. But it is also
the right of our next generation to see and discover these animals where they
belong to and not just knowing them from books or television.
Even fish dishes are that delicious, we should finally begin to bring back our
world in a good condition instead of destroying it further on. What we do? We
don't eat anything at all anymore that comes out of the sea. As Neil Armstrong
would say: "It's a small step for me, but a big step for the oceans!!"
